Moko Lesney Matchbox 47c DAF tipper container truck

The Lesney model of the DAF tipper container truck replaced the ice cream van at the number 47 slot in the Matchbox 1-75 series in 1968.
The first issue was painted turquoise and it had a yellow die cast tipper body that could be raised as it was hinged at the rear on a regular axle pin,
The container came with a removable grey plastic roof.
It was fitted with a green tinted plastic window unit and it had a red plastic baseplate that was held on by a single round rivet and included the grille & headlight detail in the molding which fitted into openings in the cab front panel.
Like all the tipping models of this era it had the usual hydrosleve fitted to hold the tipper body in the raised position.
The hydrosleves fitted to the Daf were different from the earlier versions and they now consisted of a flat plastic plate with a hole for the prong that was cast in the chassis, the design of the prong meant that they now had to have some movement to operate properly so they were designed to move forwards & back again as the container was raised and lowered, This was because the prongs on the earlier tippers were curved and mounted on the bottom of the tipper body. On the Daf the prong was mounted on the chassis and it was straight.

The model was later recoloured to a silver body which retained the yellow container and soon after a towing guide was added to the baseplate, later on the plastic roof was recoloured to silver but the wheels and windows remained the same as on the previous issue.
There were two minor casting modifications carried out on the silver bodied version, The first was to add an extra brace to the rearmost chassis crossmember,
The second was to the brackets that held the hydrosleve in position, these were originally 2.5mm wide but were later shortened to only 1.5mm wide
There are no rare variations but the turquoise version is not so easy to find and I believe most of them were probably sold in the UK, The Daf was sold in 'E' and 'F' type boxes, it was converted to superfast wheels in 1970.
