Moko Lesney Matchbox 28d Mack Dump Truck



In 1968 Lesney introduced the Mack dump truck to the Matchbox 1-75 series.
It had an orange painted body with red or yellow plastic wheels and black plastic tyres on dome head axles with rounded ends.
The wheel and tyre combination quite unusual as this type of wheel was normally only found on the larger scale major & kingsze models, In fact the hatra tractor shovel was the only other model in the range to feature wheels and tyres of this type.
It was fitted with light green tinted windows and the dumper body could be tipped because the tipper body was hinged on a regular axle pin.
The tipper mechanism had the usual black plastic damper which would hold the hopper in the raised position,
The baseplate was not painted because it had a silver plating which does tend to discolour over time,
The baseplate was joined to the body by an L shaped bracket at the front of the body that located through a slot towards the front of the baseplate and by a single rivet placed further back,

There were four minor casting variations,
The first was to add two locating studs just forwards of the front axle,
The addition of the letter 'A' to the chassis just behind the rear axle was done at about the same time,
Finally the hinge pin guide for the tipper bed was increased in height from 1.5mm to 2mm high,
Either number 1 or number 2 can be found cast in to the underside of the tipper bed on the extension that covers the cab roof.
It was sold in box types 'E' and 'F' and was converted to superfast wheels in 1970 and continued into the superfast range for many years.
It is a very common model and there are no rare variations with perhaps the new code 1 listed below.

Updated: 27-10-11, A new very early casting of the Mack has been found by Christian Falkensteiner which does not have the brace cast in above the rear axle. it has been added to the variation table as code 1. Also thanks to Christian & Kurt (Pierkemimi) for the new code 4 which I had missed.
