PLEASE NOTE: I will no longer be altering the variation codes. All new discoveries will be inserted in to their correct place in the timeline and given a suffix.
So a new variation that would be nearest to variation 4 would become the new 4a, etc.

Moko Lesney Matchbox 11c Jumbo crane

The Lesney model of the Jumbo crane was introduced into the Matchbox 1-75 series in 1964,
Initially it had a yellow body, yellow weight box and yellow jib but later issues had a red painted weight box,
The baseplate was also yellow and it was attached by a tongue at the front locating into a slot in the front panel and by a single rivet through the baseplate,
It had 16.5 x 20 wheels up front (as fitted to the 43b tractor shovel) but can be found with three different types of wheel at the back,
Firstly there was a very short run fitted with 12 x 45 black plastic wheels that had a smooth inner face, This is quite a rare type of wheel and I believe it was only used very briefly on one other vehicle which was to the front of the first issues of the 6c quarry truck, Next came another short run fitted with 11.5 x 45 which were soon replaced by 12.5 x 45 which it kept for the rest of it's life,
The axles were dome head with rounded ends,

Jumbo is usually found with red plastic hook with twin ropes but single rope red or yellow plastic hooks were also used,
The jib could be raised by hinging on a regular axle pin which was fitted through the weight box and it was held in the up position by a red plastic tubular ram which had a metal piston rod that supported the jib.
It could also swivel on a rivet cast in the weight box locating through the body giving the crane the full movement of the real vehicle.

There were some modifications to the jib, Firstly the uppermost opening was partially closed, Then the two triangular openings in the lower jib were closed, Next the upper opening was closed completely, And finally a small strengthening brace was cast in at the top inner face.
Jumbo can be found in 'E' type boxes illustrated with either the yellow or red weight box,
It is a fairly common model and except for the variation fitted with the 6c type wheels there are no real rarities,
It was deleted in 1969 to make way for the 11d Mercedes scaffolding truck.

*note the 12 x 45 black plastic wheels found on code 1 have a smooth inner face and are usually found on the very early issues of the 6c quarry truck
