Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Y-36 1925 Rolls Royce
Phantom I

The Y36-1 1925 Rolls Royce Phantom I joined the range in 1990 and all issues were made in China. The first version was in maroon and black with maroon seats, It was replaced by the blue and black version which also had maroon seats and minor enhancements to the silver trim which was released in 1992, The Rolls Royce was not deleted or replaced but no further issues were released.

Above: The Phantom l was originally intended to be the number YY-47 as found on the inside of the clear plastic window molding but the Lindt van was released at the Y-47 position so the Phantom became the number Y-36. The maroon bodied version was the first release, It had black metal wings and running boards with a chrome plated plastic baseplate, The roof, steering wheel and luggage trunk were black plastic and it was fitted with push fit chrome smooth centered wheels and blackwall tyres.

Above: For a little extra bling the window frames were highlighted in silver and the tiny Rolls Royce radiator badge was highlighted in maroon.

Above: The blue rolls royce was a basic recolouring of the earlier maroon version with the addition of silver highlights to the bonnet hinges and to the step plates on the running boards. It had a black wings & running boards and a chrome plated baseplate, headlights and radiator grille. The roof, steering wheel and luggage trunk were black plastic and the Rolls Royce radiator badge was highlighted in maroon.

Above: This version also had smooth centered chrome plated wheels and silver trim to the window frames and like the earlier version there are no rarities. The blue Rolls was based on a vehicle that was once owned by Rudyard Kipling.
