Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Y-22 1930 Ford model A Van

The Limited Edition Canada Post Ford was the fifth Model A Van to be released during 1984 and just two years later the brown Spratts van became the last Model A van to be made in England. Production was moved to Macau and in 1987 the very smart Lyon's Tea van was released which was followed by the Cherry Blossom van which was a 1989 release, Both the Lyons Tea and the Cherry Blossom were released again in 1991 when production was moved to China. The Pratt's Motor Oils van was also a China 1991 release.
Code 2 vans in the orange and blue of "Bravo Colonel" can be found with made in England, Macau or China baseplates. They had 12 spoke orange plastic wheels and a black plastic roof. The Chester Matchbox & Lesney Museum also had a code 2 made which was reddish-brown with a brown baseplate, It had 24 spoke chrome wheels and white roof. No further Y21 Model A vans were released although the casting has since been reused in other Models of Yesteryear ranges.

Above: The 1984 "Postes Canada Post" van had a red body and a gloss or a matt black "Made in England" baseplate, It had brown seats and a black plastic roof and 24 spoke wheels with blackwall tyres, The sides displayed the Royal Crest of King George V and "Postes Canada Post" in white tampo.

Above: The black plastic 24 spoke wheels were authentic but rather dull looking.

Above: The Spratt's Dog Foods van was a Limited Edition that was released in 1986. It was painted a deep reddish-brown and it had a dark brown baseplate and a white plastic roof. The seats were brown and it can have either 12 spoke gold wheels or 24 spoke chrome plated wheels.

Above: The Spratt's Livery looks quite attractive on the Model A.

Above: The dark blue Lyons Tea van was issued in 1987. It had a black diecast baseplate and a white plastic van roof and chrome plated front bumper, grille & headlights. The first issue of the model was made in Macau and can be found with chrome, gold or red 12 spoke plastic wheels with blackwall tyres on riveted axles. The last issue was made in China and that version has chrome 12 spoke push fit wheels with blackwall tyres.

Above: The Cherry Blossom van was painted white with a black baseplate and black plastic roof. The seats were light brown or fawn and it had red plastic 12 spoke wheels with blackwall tyres. The model was made in Macau and released in 1989 with a

baseplate can be found on the 1991 China issue. The Cherry Blossom emblem was painted red, magenta and the address printed on the doors was in black.

Above: The Cherry Blossom was rather too similar to the last issue in Pratt's Motor Oils livery which was to follow it.

Above: The last issue was in the livery of Pratt's Motor Oils, It was painted white with a black plastic roof and a black diecast baseplate. It had orange 12 spoke plastic wheels with whitewall tyres. The baseplate inscription was "Matchbox © 1981 Y35 Y21 Y22 China" and it had had a hole to attach it to the new style N type boxes. The tampo on the sides can be found with orange ink or red ink and a Pratt's logo was added to the back doors.
