Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Y-2 1930 4½ Litre Bentley

The Y2-4 1930 4½ Litre Bentley was introduced in 1985. It was painted dark green with dark green plastic wire wheels and dark green nylon mudguards which was the first use of nylon parts in the series, It has a chromed plastic grille, headlights and windscreen frame and the sides sported union jack decals. The interior and bonnet straps can be brown or light brown and the steering wheel and tyres were black plastic.
Production was relocated to Macau where it was issued in a lighter green and later on in dark blue. Production was then moved to China where another dark blue version was issued followed by a dark burgundy issue and although it has not been deleted and replaced the last issue released was in 1992.
To test the dies prototype models of the Bentley were made in plastic by an outside contractor, These are very hard to come by but I have managed to obtain photographs of four models from Gary Galvins collection.
