Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Y-10 1957 Maserati 250F

The Y10-4 1957 Maserati 250F 'Lightweight' was released in 1986, It was one of four vintage racing cars released to promote Lesneys sponsorship of historic car races but this never happened as it was realised that funding the races would be too costly. The Maserati was only in production for two years after which it was deleted and replaced by the Diddler Trolleybus which took over the Y10 spot.

Above: The Maserati was painted red with a red plastic baseplate. It had silver suspension, grille, steering wheel and exhaust pipe. The drivers seat was black plastic and the cockpit featured a clear plastic windscreen frame. Racing number 12 tampo were applied to the nose and either side of the rear end. The first version did not have a copyright date but later models had '©1986' added to the front of the baseplate, The wheels can be chrome plated or have an aluminium finish. There were no rare variations.

Above: Lesney caught the styling of the Maserati very well, The model was helped by having the front suspension slightly lower at the front which is rarely seen on models but most if not all full size cars sit lower at the front.
