MORE THAN JUST SHADES - CONTINUED
! To resume the work on the "shades"
variations, 5 new variations were inserted in the E box paes,
to illustrate the 5 cases discussed in the previous update (see this article). - 7C : Red cab (for the
"New Model" E4 box) + Orange Cab (No New model, E4 and E4R) : In the next update, 50B and 51B will analyzed as
George T (kerbside from the Vintage British Diecast
Forum) provided pictures that illustrate light and dark green models. Thanks
to George, who also provided the 7C red cab box. In addition to the new E box variations: - A new 27C-D2-2a, that
show small number with serifs for a D1 box. 27C-D2-2a is now 27C-D2-3a and
27C-D2-2b is now 27C-D2-3b |

MORE THAN JUST SHADES In this update, an important decision was made to
include new RW E Box variations. As 46C and 31C have both variations that are
a little more than just shades, 5 other models can also be considered as
such. Supported by the listing in both John Hanchet
& Nigel Cooper "The Matchbox Picture Boxes" as well as
Christian Falkensteiner, I pushed the research a
little further and realized that indeed, some variations have been overlooked
on this web site. By comparing several pictures, I came to the conclusion
that 5 models can already have a new variation. Those model are: - 7C : Red cab (for the "New Model" E4
box) + Orange Cab (No New model, E4 and E4R) |

NEW B BOXES FOR THE 34A Taniwa from the Vintage British Diecast Froum brought to light unnoticed variations of B boxes
for 34A. Unlike the variation for size 3 B4 and B5 boxes, which feature a
background and plain sides on the model drawing, the new variation has no
background and some unreadable writings on the model side. By looking closer
to different images of the 34A boxes, each of these two variations come with
differences in the "N" of the right number as well as position of
the model against the left end of the scroll. This is also noticeable on the
C box. Pages for the B and C boxes have been updated to reflect those

BOX IS ADDED ! The very last D box missing picture is now added,
meaning that each D box is now illustrated on the website. Furthermore,

In the
search for the missing 10B B box picture, Martin Berger provided me with what
was thought to be the missing one. Instead, it turned out that the box is an
unlisted variation. Luckily, I was able to also get the missing picture. As
for many B Box variations, the difference is subtle. The new variation has
the model number closer to the drawing and also a tiny bit higher. As shown,
here, you can see the new variation (listed as 10B-B2-5a) above the what was the missing one (10B-B2-4a). Already listed B4 boxes are now renumbered 10B-B4-6a

In
addition to the picture of the then missing 43A-B4-3a/43A-B5-3b, a new
variation came up. This one has the numbers and model slightly to the left of
the picture. Using the "N" of the right N°43, we clearly see the
position of the end of the scroll between the two "legs" of the
letter "N" in the second picture, while the last one, the new
variation, has the end of scroll directly under the second leg of the
"N". The new variation is on a B4 box, so it will be
identified as 43A-B4-2a. 43A-B4-3a/43A-B5-3b will become 43A-B4-4a/43A-B5-4b and 43A-B4-2a/43A-B5-2b will become
43A-B4-3a/43A-B5-3b. And there is now more missing picture fir the 43A ! Note that the end flap has Hillman "Minx". New pictures added : |

A new
variation for 58A! B3 type box with blue square. The right "No 58"
is slightly to the left of the picture, almost touching the tree of the
background. The picture is actually the same used for the second B5 box
illustrated in the B Box page (#51 to #75) Because it's one of the first box variation, it will
be put as the last of the 3 B3 boxes and will be numbered 58A-B3-3a. The B4 and B5 boxes will renumbered accordingly. New pictures added : |

One more
finding from Kerry Croxton ! 62A B5 box having the model number at right closer to
the model while the one at left is slightly more the left of the picture. See
new variation (62A-B5-5a) comparing to 62A-B5-3a. Both have the red hubs with
background. Image of the new variation is actually identical to the image
62A-B3-1a (blue square B3 box). Kerry also provided the missing picture for

picture provided by George Marshall shows a C box variation for the 45A.
Similar to 33A, the car is lower and model number are closer to the model.
Many thanks to George for this find. The second variation, 45A-C-2a, is now

The King Size boxes are now part of the main menu of the site. But
before it can be as complete as the regular wheels pages, your help is needed ! First, the main page is ready and available. It explains the box classification as it will be
structured on the site. Then, a first page is made
available to help build the future detailed pages for every type, with the
same approach as with the RW. This page covers the C and D type King Size
boxes. To be as accurate as possible and to make sure all pictures are in
scale, your help to provide the box measurements is needed. So if you can
help, please provide the 3 mains measures required to present the pictures as
accurate as possible. The page also provides a list of missing pictures that,
of course, would complete the reference guide if someone is kind enough to

Connelly sent a new variation for the 37B. By comparing with the only one
documented on this site so far, we clearly see that the new one provided by
Bill (above) has a darker load and the model numbers are closer to the model.
The left tree is also quite different from the one below !

the 9C Fire Engine, showing the model with a yellow grille and no background.
Actually, this variation is listed on Christian Falkensteiner's
list, but was omitted on this site ! This variation
is now known as 9C-B5-3a. Also, Nigel greatfully
provided the missing picture for the 64A first box variation, with the blue
square. Also, Bill Connelly brought the missing C box list to just one, sharing this beautiful picture of the 56A C box showing side/front view. The image was taken from a recent Vectis Auction. |

them. The 6D Ford Pick Up truck is missing the size 6 F2 type sides and end
flap. All the rest is there ! Now, I will be working

Trevor Bannister sent
a very interesting D box, the 43B D1 showing the very small model number.
This one is a scarce box, and a few other models, such as 40B, 53B and 58B have the same kind
of pattern. Detlef Wehram
also provided some unknown variations now added to this site. First of all,
the 50A B3 type, showing the model
with line underneath. The blue square box is the third variation and the
second major one. Then comes 69A D1 box, showing the same kind of model numbering as the D2 box. It seems
that more and more variations like this one will show up, since the "D1
end flap/ model number without serifs" is not 100% accurate! Detlef also sent a clearer pic of tge

A very nice addition
from Detlef Wehram from Germany : the 23C C box showing the 23B model. We are now
only two boxes short of having all the C boxes. The 33A (model at the far
left of the picture, the front bumper just above the back of the scroll) and
the 56 A (side view) are the
only boxes still not illlustrated on the C boxes
pages. Also new on the
website, three D boxes : 40B (D1 type, model number
without serifs, near model), 56A (D1 type) and 67A (D1 type). And at last but not
least, I began the F boxes pages ! So far, models 1
through 25 are included, showing end flaps and sides pictures. Most of the
info is there, but I am missing a few variations (6D and 9D size 7). More F
boxes will be added on the next update ! Finally, I mispelled Joe Keppler's name on the last update. It's not Jeppler, of course ! Sorry Joe ! |

Joe Keppler sent some E boxes end flaps and Steve Beckett
sent the C box for the 72A (no lines). There are only two C boxes missing,
the 23C (showing 23B) and 56A (side view). We are also looking for a
variation for the 33A. This particular variation shows the model at the far
left of the picture, the front bumper just above the back of the
scroll. Also, a new page was added : the list for missing end flaps for E boxes. |
