Matchbox King-Size No.K-16 Dodge Tractor Unit & Twin Tipping Trailers
|
The Lesney Matchbox King-Size K-16 Dodge Tractor Unit with Twin Tipping Trailers was introduced in the 1965 catalogue as being the new Major pack M7 but before it was released Lesney decided to delete the entire major pack range so the Dodge was released in the King-Size range at number K-16, With it's tough looking American cab and twin tippers it was an instant hit and became one of Lesneys best selling King-Size models. The Dodge tractor unit and the trailer chassies were painted green while the tipping hoppers and tailgates were painted yellow, The wheel hubs were red plastic and were fitted with black plastic tyres and the cab featured plastic windows and silver trim to the headlights and bumper, It was also adorned with diecast airhorns and an airfilter that were usually silver plated but not always. The sides of the hoppers were enhanced with 'Dodge Trucks' decals and they had the customary 'hydrosleeves' fitted to the underneath to keep the hoppers in the raised position. The Dodge was packaged in E and F type window boxes with the F type being with or without header card, In 1970/71 it was converted to superfast wheels and the model was recoloured to yellow cab & chassies with light blue tipper bodies, The superfast issue is quite hard to find and usually fetches similar prices to the regular wheeled models.
