Matchbox King-Size No.K-12 Foden Heavy Breakdown Wreck Truck
|
1963 saw the introduction of the Lesney Matchbox King-Size K-12 Foden Heavy Breakdown Wreck Truck, It was always painted green with a yellow crane jib and a white plastic 'wire' was used to attach an unpainted metal hook. The cab had plastic windows fitted and the grille was highlighted with silver trim, The wheel hubs were usually red plastic but the model also appeared with unpainted metal wheels which is quite a hard to find variation, Both wheel types were fitted with black plastic tyres. The cab was adorned with 'BP "Matcbox" Service Station' and 'Head Office Eastway London' decals to the body sides and 'Matchbox BP Service' to the sign on the roof. The roof sign is the only known casting variation, Early issues had a seperately cast roof sign that had a light cast in on each side, Later issues had the sign cast in as part of the roof but this version did not have the lights. It was packaged in D, E and F type boxes the F type being a window box. The model was retired in 1969 to make way for the Scammell Crane Truck.
