Hi all,

It will get a trailer once I found one.

Hi,

today I ended this project.
I received the model from Jason and tried to paint it two tone metallic red with a beige Roof but it didn´t work for three times and I won´t try it again.
Again thanks to Jason for the model.

Red and Beige seems to be a fairly nice match, so what was the problem. Was the red showing through the Beige or was the darker red on the upper part of the car instead of the lower part of the car where it should be.

This was what happend last time while painting the model a third time.
Two times before the masking didn´t work.

Looks like you are placing the white over the red, is that correct? If so, the white paint may be burning into the red and then skinning over too quickly causing the wrinkle finish (the combined thick paint surface is drying on the outside before the layers underneath). This can also happen if the white paint is hotter (has a lighter solvent) than the red paint and can happen when the paints are incompatible due to different solvent and/or carrier formulas. Some paints have a small window of time for a second coat and once outside that window, you may have to wait two or three days to apply another coat (or else it wrinkles like this).

Are the paints the same brand and type? Are they lacquer based, acrylic based or a combination of 1 vs 2? What is the drying time listed on the red paint's instructions regarding applying another coat?

We can fix the problem but have to get to the cause to do it.

The problem was the clear varnish over the beige paint.
It causes the beige to crack.
In the stage the model is now I could paint the roof without this problem but I simply do not dare to do it bcause I don´t want to spoil the model again with beige paint where it should not be as I did two times before.
