Many (probably most) of the "Duck" boats in use today have been rebuilt so much that nothing remains of the original surplus vehicles that first were used for this purpose. Even replacement hulls are made and used on them (as most have long since rusted and fatigued beyond safe use). The first thing that gets replaced: Engine, transmission, brakes and running gear. Frames are often heavily rebuilt or new frames are constructed. There is a company that will build you a new duck boat that looks like it was a modified original duck.

There are quite a few modified Alvis Stalwarts used in this same fashion. Some are even lengthened and modified so much it's difficult to recognize them.

Shouldn't e too long on the Duck roof, meanwhile a row of my Matchbox Esso wreckers.

In the eBay job lot that include some Army Dinky's (Humbers and DUKW) there was a rather sorry looking 5.5 medium gun.
The vertical damping pistons had broken off but I made new ones from brass tubes topped off with panel tacks.
A quick repaint and a set of tyres and not looking too shabby now.
A new lease of life.
It is actually matt army green but one photo makes it look grey.

Looking at the pre-pro K1 Excavator and the fact that I won't get one anytime soom, I pulled apart my worst example and rattle canned it.
Before and after shots below .... I think I'll leave the wheels red.
It's a jigsaw puzzle to dismantle and I thought it best to leave the jib assembly alone.
Instead, I removed one rivet at the cab end and threw the whole jib in caustic solution.
After rinsing, scrubbing and wire brushing, the jib was like new and to keep it that way I sprayed it with clear lacquer.
Needs re-assembling now. I have the hollow ended rivets to attach chassis to cab but without a proper tool, it usually cocks the job up, so it will get nut and bolted.
Colour is a lot better than this photo shows. Camera not playing in poor light so will try my other camera once it is all assembled.

I've been wanting to do the same color conversion. I'm considering replacing the lowest hydro-sleeve with a faux one (like on the real prepro) and fixing the bucket in place.
