Still searching....Feels like a Ureka moment coming any time soon and then we may know what I am sure someone thinks "Oh that one yea I know what that is"----Come on then speak up....As an aside...I just saw a Kemlow with similar black over spray as detailing..

I've put the search out a bit wider and asked through Model Auto Review if any of there readers know anything about this Mystery car...I am really looking forward to a reply on this but will be slightly sad when if it comes to fruition as I think this has been my most interesting post yet and it was'nt even mine [Thanks Dave]..Lets see what pops up.I will let you know as soon as I know.

I know Maz Woolley at Model Auto Review (actually now known as MAR online) and he will put it out to the Coventry Diecast Model Club as he edits their club newsletter.

I just got an answer back from MAR and I am informed that Robert Newson classes this as a Merlin/TAL North London casting.So unless theres any objection to that I think we can go with Mr Newson on this and put it to bed.....Thoughts please ,I would be very interested in any feedback as if this is right and I have no reason at all to disbelieve its correct I just wonder why its never come under our radar before...


It would be very nice if Robert Newson joined us here on the VBDF as I am sure there are many who own or have read his article and books ......


Heres the reply I got on MAR..Accredited to Robert Newson.....“The solid-window car is one that I am often asked about. The car has distinctive two-tone paint, where the front and rear ends of the model were over-sprayed in a contrasting colour. There are lots of different colour combinations. This paint effect is found on the Merlin Jeep (made by T.A.L.Developments of Tottenham) and the Modern Products racing car, and on various other unidentified models, including diecast and composition. For lack of any other identification, I group them all together as Merlin/TAL.

So yes, certainly from North London. The date is early post-war, not pre-war.”
