Hope everyone is keeping well.
Recently contacted by collector who sent photo of red base Impala
"Hello
Just downloaded your variations catalogue and find it very informative and interesting.
I recently purchased a lot of three played with vehicles and one of the three was a 57B Chevrolet Impala. What is unusual about this model is that it has a Maroon coloured base plate (photo attached). All of my research seems to suggest that no one has ever listed this including yourselves as a variation and I may have something unique. I believe it to be genuine as rivets have not been touched.
Have you or any of your contacts seen this variation before?
Kind regards
Les Widdowson"

I asked for some more photos and permission to post here to which he agreed. Is there any reason to think this is not original?

Hi Rodger,

Whilst Nick does not list the crimson base version NAMC did at code 4 and Christian also lists the same specs as this one at his code 11, i.e. it has 20 tread at the front and 24 tread at the rear as spw with crimson base.

Looks fine to me (and the fact that it is playworn adds to the likelihood of it being genuine). I would be delighted to have this in my display case (albeit upside-down!).

Me too! It would be interesting to know where this one turned up - I think Zbret found his in France and somewhere on the forum there’s a report of another sold there. The rivets look good though I’d like a better picture of the broken tow hitch To be completely sure.

Agreed. This seems to have been such a short run, it seems highly probable that they formed as-good-as a single shipment.

Just had a reply from Les, the model came from Australia that he bid for on eBay. Also sent 2 more photos of broken tow hook. Have left pictures original size to help with detail, can resize if needed.
