I'm very interested to hear what you make of it, Tim. (it's the windows which worry me most.) Don't forget to take a dark green 59a with you for colour comparison purposes.

I love these discussions as a lot of idea's come from them. This story reminds me of the green 5a buses that were found over here and all by one guy. Almost everybody disputed that they were real - it went from repaints done long ago to a fake made by the finder and to a Lesney employee making them in their spare time on the line (anybody watched the factory video would see they never had spare time on their hands !)
I checked them out and all looked genuine to me and told him so, the gold trim was right as were the decals - just that damn green colour. Well as we all know now the story of them and they were real ( could kick myself for not buying one now ) The green isn't the same as this Anglia though as it appears darker but if a person is really convinced it is real and genuine then possibly paying for a paint test would be one way to go. Expensive, yes but worth it if it turns out right. We do not know everything that happened at Lesney and stuff still pops up that has never been known before even after all these years.

Anything out of the ordinary is worth buying as long as it is not an obvious fake and it is cheap, as you just never know what you might discover and can often be surprised by a final outcome after several views by specialist collectors of the brand.

I have looked at a few models with the same similar base wear and all have damage or paint loss to this area i have circled . Add the unusual looking rivet and the colour difference and i would leaning toward this model being on the restored . Having said that a good look at the roof rivet and colour under the window unit would be helpful .

The bent tow hitch & support would certainly absorb most of the ground/carpet play wear and wouldnt attract any/much chips/dings etc in the area uve encircled.
Also just noticed what looks like hazy scouring of the rear window area or could it be factory die scours thats evident or is this haze caused by the lighting.Also noticed a casting flaw/hole at the left rear boot/fender area.

1. headlight surrounds almost devoid of paint yet the bumper that protrudes far further forward than the headlight surrounds is near perfect [artificial aging??]

2. tow hitch virtually devoid of paint on upper face [even where it dissapears under the bumper bar] but rear bumper paint near perfect [base was refitted after body re paint but base was not re painted]

3. highly suspect rivet [OMG]

4. bent axle [takes a lot to achieve] not conducive with the general condition of the models body paint, probably due to the axle ends being held/squeezed with a pair of multi grips while attempting to remove the base after bending the tow hitch with the first attempt at base removal

5. not even close to 'kelly green'

6. wheels look brand new yet base shows plenty of play wear/paint loss [maybe poor attempt at artificial aging]

7. sagging window insert because it's probably been pried from the rivet before the repaint and the rivet was then modified to enable the re fitment of the window insert which in turn caused sagging due to the reshaping of the rivet not holding the window insert firmly in place

8. bent tow hook because pressure was applied probably because it was used in the first attempt to lift the base off

9. missing paint on the front bumper where the base plate tongue was inserted numerous times when trying to refit the base.

10.THE MOST TELLING OF ALL; base rivet hole edges protruding upwards because it was forced back into position over an already expanded rivet [which was further expanded after re fitment of the base in a very crude fashion]
