I am sure the easiest way would be to weigh the package up and look up the chart of the countries mailer concerned and in my case would be the Royal Mail,much like the ebay system.

Thanks for the response. I suppose I could look up the Royal Mail and understand it, but we're likely to have sellers from around the world, strange and far-away places like Australia who speak a language incomprehensible to me. What do I do then? And I have no way of knowing the final size or weight of the sellers parcel anyway. So I don't know how I could place a bid on an item without this critical shipping cost information.

Hi Nick,

I know this is probably a work in progress. Thanks for everything; I appreciate all you and others do here.

Regarding the price display, I have to drill it into my head that it is actually UK pounds, not U.S. dollars. But how will everyone who happens along to the auction site know this, both buyers and sellers? Is there a way to at least add a note to that effect somewhere on the auction page, if not to obviously change the display to UK pounds? I could see some big disputes happening due to users not knowing about this little bug. (I know this is in its infancy and it's a lot of work.)

I will look into the"ask seller a question" button, and yes I will accept payment by cheque, paypal, electronic transfer, cash stuffed envelope or young women.

The whole idea of creating our own auction site is to not make the same mistakes as ebay, And sellers profiteering on shipping is one of ebays biggest problems so I would like to suggest selllers charge no more than 30 pence over the actual shipping cost, on my own auctions the buyer pays actual shipping costs and nothing more.

You will all have to bear with me, I built my website with html which I taught myself and it was fairly easy to learn, both the forum and the auction forum are written in php which is a totally different language, It's like translating hebrew to chinese without speaking either language.
html is like a plate of chips, pick out the chip you want, alter the text and put the chip back.
php is like a plate of spaghetti. where do I start............
