I believe the model in the first picture above has the 'Shallow' air-horns. The 'Deep' version looks more distinctly hollow. This is the same as the 'Yesteryear' Y-4 Duesenberg front mounted air-horns, filled-in or open.

Previous catalogues make note of the horns having either deep or shallow openings. I do not go by this because of casting or flashing issues on some early and late models inconsistencies.
Online photos do not always show the openings clearly.
The best way to see the differences is the view from above, as the horns are different lengths.
The short horn was used for the life of the model. The long horn is found on the cab associated with type A bpw, ie the late issues.
Here are two photos.

Note to Kevin. Hi Kevin, As it turns out the horns on the model in the first photo page 1 I posted has the deep openings ( short horn). This a good example of the photo angle making it difficult to tell.

Oh - STILL no photos from me (due to wife's involvement with visiting Government officials and daughter's school prize giving ceremony tonight - she will be on stage so I HAVE to go..)

Latest inspection of the horns reveals they are two different lengths - the short horns are 10.8mm with no space between the rectangular mounting plate and the rear horn bulb, the long horns are 11.3mm with a 0.5mm space between the rectangular mounting plate and the rear horn bulb (see Bert's photos for clarification). BOTH the long and short horns on my models have an approx 2mm front recess.

The tractor units all have angled braces on the chassis hole immediately behind the cab and rounded corners in the other chassis holes.

The trailers have two sizes of horizontal brace above the rear doors (1.0mm and 1.3mm as best as I can measure with the calipers) - only my orange labelled version has the larger brace. As far as the door pin mounts are concerned they all appear to be the same WIDTH (2.5mm) with the orange labelled version's mount being the same thickness (top to bottom) as the horizontal door brace (1.3mm) and the others being the same thickness as their brace (1.0mm)

Quick shot of the grey version now that exams etc are over for the girls... I'll post a line-up photo as soon as I get them to take the shots of all the trucks.

While comparing some new additions to my M9mania i found these trailer bases. 24 of my trailers got the 90° connection slot, 5 others have a more or less different angle. 3 of them are the late grey ones, but i also got an example of a sloted and a riveted silver base.

Have these slots have been punched or were they part of the casting?

I did not know the key hole for the Fifth wheel was at different angles at the front of the trailer while at the rear they are all the same, interesting.
