Hi all,
Cheers all. Sorry for the late reply!
Dave, I won't take it to the grave, but I'm NOT selling this one less I really have to!
It is indeed a lead alloy, mazak came in very early though, by 1936 most Dinkys were made of it. Cost was another reason for the change, especially when you consider the shipping weight difference, the first time I ever held one of these years ago the first thing I thought was "that is really heavy".
Fatigue isn't really fatigue at all of course, and contamination of the mazak with lead was almost certainly the cause of it. The pre war / post war line isn't quite as defined as some writers have said, there are some odd balls out there, especially in the 25 Series lorries, where liveries thought to be pre war only do turn up on postwar (and fatigue free) models, there is no evidence of liveried 28 series vans ever being made after the war though.
The green wheels on this one prove one thing, you never really know anything for sure, I just checked the notes I made on these last year, after listing every variation of 28/1 sold by the major auctions over the last 10 - 15 or so years, my note reads "28g Kodak, bare / red / blue / gold wheels only".
