Lot 2272 Dinky Toys - April 11th, 2006
Dinky - Pre-war Motor Cars Set No.24 - very scarce Gift Set from the 1934 to 1940 period - set comprises, (1) No.24a Ambulance - cream body, red wings with criss-cross chassis, open windows, plated hubs with raised centre boss, white tyres (some flat spots), with plain radiator grille. Some light chipping to upper surfaces and repaired fatigue blisters to roof and bonnet side, with recent fatigue blister to one side of wing near driver's door. (2) No.24b Limousine - nicely repainted model has blue body, pale yellow wings, unpainted criss-cross chassis, black hubs with raised centre boss, white tyres (one tyre has perished), fitted with replacement axles, no obvious sign of fatigue, (3) No.24c Town Sedan - dark blue body and wings, reproduction criss-cross chassis, violet blue smooth hubs, white tyres (some are cracked), badge to radiator version, replacement axles with one broken front axle securing lug, one headlamp detached but present (in box), small fatigue chips to roof, (4) No.24d Vogue Saloon - light beige body, dark green repainted criss-cross chassis, black smooth hubs with white tyres, including spare wheel, varnished radiator grille, fatigue blister to roof and bonnet sides, (5) No.24e Super Streamlined Saloon - red body, black repainted criss-cross chassis, replacement plain radiator grille and chassis, wear to upper surfaces of body but no obvious fatigue damage, fitted with black hubs with raised centre bosses and white tyres (one front tyre has perished), (6) No.24f Sportsman Coupe - fawn body, brown criss-cross chassis, plain radiator grille, plated hubs with raised centre boss, including spare wheels, white tyres (a couple of flat spots), glue repair to one rear mudguard and to chassis leg near rear axle, slight chipping but no obvious signs of fatigue to body, (7) No.24g Sports 4-seater Tourer - yellow body, black criss-cross chassis, plain radiator grille, raised centre boss to plated wheels, white tyres including spare, solid tinplate screen, repainted chassis with replacement front grille, some hidden glue repairs to inside of body casting around bonnet area, some wear to upper surfaces and 2 x fatigue chips to bonnet and (8) No.24h Sports 2-seater Tourer - green body, red criss-cross chassis, plain radiator grille (over varnished), hubs have raised centre bosses (plating has worn) with white tyres including spare, open tinplate windscreen, fatigue cracks to bonnet and light wear to upper surfaces, red repainted chassis with replacement radiator grille - otherwise contents are generally Fair overall and are mounted on to a Good purple card box inner and enclosed within a Good blue marbled effect box with colourful label to lid and end label marked "DT24" (some handling wear to box edges) - very scarce early Set indeed.
