Lesney Matchbox Accessory pack A4 Roadsigns |
|
The Lesney Accessory pack number A4 was a set of eight die cast road signs which was first introduced in 1960, The roadsigns were painted gloss black and they had a black & white decal applied to display the roadsign warning and the warning triangle at the top was picked out in red, The signs consisted of crossroads, hospital, bend, double bend, children crossing, level crossing, roundabout and cattle. The signs were packaged in a 'B' type box which shows three of the signs on the front. The signs were copied in plastic by an unknown manufacturer that wanted to cash in on Lesneys success, The copies were sold in sets of six which were mounted on a yellow card which had '"Matchbox" series' and 'Road sign set 'A' or 'B' displayed along the top, These signs had nothing to do with Lesney and were clearly an infringement of the Lesney trademark but have gone on to be collectors items in their own right. The Lesney roadsign sets in mint and boxed condition are not easy to find and unboxed sets are rarely complete, They were not the greatest of sellers but are keenly sought by collectors, I believe they were deleted in 1961 or 1962. |
