Lesney Rag & Bone cart |
|
Following the success of the Milkfloat Lesney introduced the Rag & Bone cart which was also released in 1949 and it measured 130 mm (5 inches) long. The Rag & Bone cart used the driver, Horse and front turntable from the Milkfloat paired up with the new Rag & Bone cart body and new red painted wagon wheels which were accurate for this type of vehicle, The Rag & Bone cart was usually painted yellow but there was also a short run painted green, It was sold with seven pieces of junk which consisted of a bicycle frame, a mangle handle, a bucket, a bedstead, a tin bath and a toilet cistern which were all in unpainted die cast metal and slatted box which was painted brown. The driver was painted a light brown and the horse was metallic grey as found on the early milkfloats. The Rag & Bone cart was not a good seller and was not made in any great numbers so it is the second rarest of the early Lesney toys after the Soap box racer. Like the Milkfloat this one was also packaged in its own box which illustrated a red Rag & Bone cart with "Scale Model " and "Rag & Bone merchants cart" printed on the front. |
