Lesney Matchbox Major pack M1a Caterpillar earth scraper |
|
The M1a Caterpillar earth scraper was the first model in the new Major pack series which was introduced in 1957. The caterpillar tractor and the earth scraper attachment were both one piece castings which were painted orange-yellow all over, The wheels were ahead of their time as they were metal hubs with black platsic tyres which was a type that Lesney did not use for another ten years. The model had dome head axles with the early crimped axle ends or the slightly harder to find rounded ends but it was not silver trimmed and it had no decals so the unusual wheel & tyre combination set the model off nicely. Although it is not common and it is a desirable model prices are not as high as those of the 1-75 series simply because there are less Major pack collectors searching for the models The model was sold in 'B' and 'C' type boxes and was deleted in 1961 to make way for the M1b BP Autotanker |
