Lesney Matchbox Major pack M1b BP Autotanker |
|
Lesney introduced the very futuristic looking M1b "BP" (Leyland) Autotanker in 1961, The Autotanker was based on a prototype of which only the one was made but having the familiar BP livery made it kind of recognisable to the boys that were buying them. The body was a one piece casting which was painted green with a yellow top half, The sides had BP shield decals with a large white background which served to colour the sides white, The front and rear also had BP decals and the front decal concealed the only casting modification which was a hole in the front panel which was filled on the later issues. As can be seen from the picture below the front panel was actually the door to the cab. The baseplate was gloss black and the model was fitted with eight knobbly tread black plastic wheels which was changed to a finer tread wheel on the later issues and the axles were always dome head with rounded ends, The window unit was green tinted plastic and early issues had silver trim to the headlights and rear bumper but later this was reduced to the headlights only although models have been seen without any silver trim at all. The Autotanker was packed in 'C' or 'D' type boxes, It is not hard to find although boxed models are not that common, It was deleted in 1966. |
