Moko Lesney Matchbox 64a Scammell breakdown truck

The Lesney model of the 64a Scammell army breakdown truck joined the Matchbox 1-75 series in 1959 and was just one of eight military vehicles to make an appearance in that year bringing the total to nine Army & RAF vehicles which is not including the 12c land rover.
It was painted military olive green all over including the baseplate and sometimes the hook.
The wheels were 12.5 x 30 on the early issues and these were mounted on dome head axles with crimped ends.
The axles were later changed to dome head with rounded ends and on the final issue 12.5 x 40 black plastic wheels were fitted.
The hook can be 18mm long green or silver painted metal, 20mm green or silver painted metal or 20mm grey plastic on the final issues.
The early issues had the hook secured by a biff rivet which was later changed to a dome head axle pin with a crimped end and the last issue had a dome head with rounded end. Issues that were fitted with a green painted hook also had a green painted rivet.
Possibly because the model has no headlights and it was a military model silver trim was never applied to the Scammell and perhaps the model might have been brightened up a little had Lesney decided to enhance it with some suitable military style decals.

There were a few casting modifications, The first was to the rear of the cab inside the gap between the cab and the load bed, The early issues had no infill to the gap. Later two small blocks were cast in one at each end of the gap.
Later still a larger block was cast in to the left hand end of the gap. The enlarged left side block is rather a rough casting and probably came about because of a damaged die rather than an intentional modification.
Also there is slight casting modifications to the front of the cab, On early issues the top edge of the windscreen was level as was the two sides of the bonnet (hood). Later issues had an angled upper edge and one side of the bonnet is slightly lower than the other.
The Scammell was packaged in 'B', 'C' and 'D' type boxes, It was replaced by another rather dull model - the 64b MG 1100 in 1966.

above: also the model on the left has a flat edge to the top of the
widscreen, the model on the right has an angled windscreen upper edge.
