PLEASE NOTE: I will no longer be altering the variation codes. All new discoveries will be inserted in to their correct place in the timeline and given a suffix.
So a new variation that would be nearest to variation 4 would become the new 4a, etc.

Moko Lesney Matchbox 41c Ford GT40

The Lesney model of the Ford GT40 joined the Matchbox 1-75 series in 1966 and although production figures were not kept by Lesney it was in Jack Odell's own words "The best selling miniature of all time."
The first issue was painted white, It had a clear plastic windows and a red plastic interior but shades can vary.
The first type of wheel was carried over from the last of the previous model, the 41b Jaguar D type which were red plastic hubs with 11.5 x 72 black plastic tyres.
These were on dome head axles with rounded ends.
Because the model had a detailed engine casting at the rear the suspension worked on just the front axle. The model was enhanced with blue & white racing stripe decal with the number 6 on it.
An early issue of the GT40 was recoloured to yellow for inclusion in the 1966 G4 racetrack set.
Another early issue was released painted in cream which is not so much of a recent discovery but a difficult to find colour shade variation that has been overlooked.

The only casting variation concerns whether the model has a towing guide or not. To add the towing guide an extension was added to the bumper and two guides were added to the baseplate, During the changeover to models with towing guide some were issued with bumper extension but no baseplate guides and others with baseplate guides but no bumper extension.
The last issues of the GT40 had the decal replaced by a label which is in a lighter shade of blue than found on the decal. This final issue can be found with a gloss or flat black baseplate.
A handful of GT40's have been found fitted with 7mm wire wheels and 11.5 x 45 black plastic tyres that are usually found on the 75b Ferrari Berlinetta, I have not added this variation to the table because it is so rare it is most likely to be a pre production model.
The wire wheeled version is extremely rare, The red hub is next followed by the yelllow version, the white model with yellow hubs is very common.
The GT40 was packaged in 'E' and 'F' type boxes, The 'F' box is quite hard to find and will sometimes fetch a small premium.
