PLEASE NOTE: I will no longer be altering the variation codes. All new discoveries will be inserted in to their correct place in the timeline and given a suffix.
So a new variation that would be nearest to variation 4 would become the new 4a, etc.

Moko Lesney Matchbox 34c Volkswagen camper

Lesney replaced their green VW camper which was the second version of the VW van with the third version which joined the Matchbox 1-75 series in early 1967.
The new model of the camper was painted silver, It had an amber tinted window unit and an orange plastic interior, The baseplate was black and it was fitted with 11 x 45 black plastic wheels on dome head axles with rounded ends and because the model was painted silver it did not need silver trim.
Like the earlier issue it had opening side doors and a detailed interior but this one had the added feature of a raised camper roof with six small widows around the sides and a large window in the roof proper.
The raised roof version was not in production for very long before the roof was lowered and the six extra windows were removed leaving just the large central window on a raised panel which gave it the appearance of a pop-up roof in the down position. This was most likely to have been done due to the fully raised roof being prone to bending easily and possibly because of a high rate of rejects after the components had been tumbled to remove them from the sprue.
There were several casting modifications apart from the lowering of the roof height. The side door handle can be found in two sizes where the handle was enlarged on the later issues. The right side door had the window frame thickened and a ridge was added below the window frame very early in the models life. The windscreen pillars were enlarged from 1mm thick on the early issues to 1.5mm thick on the later ones.
A tow guide was also added to the base, The first version had a smooth baseplate and the underneath of the front bumper was also smooth, Later an extension was added to the underneath of the front bumper and this version can be found with the original smooth baseplate or later on it was paired up with a baseplate with tow guide ridges added.
The VW was not deemed suitable for conversion to superfast wheels but it was not deleted from the range until 1971, It was packaged in box type 'E' and 'F' and there are no known rare variations.
