PLEASE NOTE: I will no longer be altering the variation codes. All new discoveries will be inserted in to their correct place in the timeline and given a suffix.
So a new variation that would be nearest to variation 4 would become the new 4a, etc.

Moko Lesney Matchbox 12b Land Rover series II

The second version of the Lesney Land Rover joined the 1-75 series in 1959,
Like the previous model it was only available painted in military green, It had a black metal baseplate which is attached by a spread rivet at the front and a round rivet at the rear.
It was equipped with a tow hook but Lesney never saw fit to make anything suitable for it to tow.
The first version had silver trim to the grill, the headlights and front bumper but the trim to the grill was omitted very early on in production and it is not uncommon to find examples without any silver trim at all.
The first issue had dome head axles with crimped ends and the later issues had dome head axles with rounded ends.
Black plastic wheels of various size and tread pattern were usually fitted but one of the later issues was fitted with 11 x 45 tread grey plastic wheels which is quite rare variation.

There were a few casting variations and the first was to the tow hook, This was the simple thickening of the back of the tow hook platform where it joins to the base to add some strength,
The steering wheel was also modified, First the column was made thinner from 2mm to 1.5mm thick, The horn push was made smaller and the slot in the dashboard was widened, The method of attaching the steering column was modified so the steering column was less likely to come off, This was done by adding a bulb to the inner end of the column and modifying the method of attachment. The bulb can be seen under the front wheel well,
The Land Rover was probably not one of the best sellers because despite being in production for six years it is not a very common model,
It was packaged in 'B' 'C' and 'D' type boxes and was deleted in 1965 to make way for the third Land Rover the 13d safari.
