Matchbox Superfast MB70-b Ford D series Grit Spreader
The Ford D series Grit Spreader was one of the very last conversions from regular wheels to SuperFast. Its colours had already been brightened up to SF specifications on the final run of regular wheels. There are only 2 known SF variations, the uncommon 5 slot thin 12.5mm wheels which usually appear with dark red axle covers or the very common 4 slot 12.5mm thin wheels usually with black axle covers. There are two slightly different baseplates, One has small 'PAT APP' lettering and long braces and one has larger lettering with short braces but this has not been added to the variation table.
Wheel swaps are easy with this casting although there is zero evidence to support factory fitted wide wheels on this casting. Rumours that left over from regular wheels production primrose yellow backs were fitted to some SF Grit Spreaders have not yet been proven by detailed photographs online so this is a potential new variation to look out for!
It was packed in a ´G´ box and can also be found in US & Canadian blisterpack designs with copyright dates 1969-71 although it was only in the range 1970-71.
