Matchbox Superfast MB48-c Dodge dumper truck
The 48c Dodge dumper truck was converted to SuperFast wheels late in 1970 and can be found packaged in ´G´ boxes or very desirable scarce ´I´ boxes as well as all blisterpacks with copyright dates between 1969 and 1972. The chassis cab was painted turquoise enamel with a Muira yellow tipper and green glazing with a chromed plastic baseplate. The first run was fitted with 11x2mm thin solid or hollow 5 slot SuperFast wheels with subsequent runs featuring 12.5x2mm or 12.5x4mm 4 slot Superfast truck wheels. It's very short stay in the Superfast range is reflected in it's relative scarcity today when compared to the very common regular wheeled model. Oddly most of the Superfast Dodges found at toyfairs nowadays are usually in very good shape which maybe tells us that these Dodges were not very popular in their day so they did not get played with much. Possibly the reason for this was because of the hot rods that Lesney had started making looked so much better racing along the superfast tracksets rather than a plain old dump truck no matter how brightly it was painted up.
This tooling was retired in 1972, never to be used again and so far no evidence has come to light that this casting was ever assembled in Brazil.
