It's possible that one of them is a replica badge.
The replica one I have has slightly thinner font (though yours both look the same) and not positioned accurately.

The back of the replica badge has a flat aspect to the silver metal, whereas the original ones I have are all rounded.

I've got 3 badges that are replicas (sold as such) all with flat back - roller badge obviously too small

Couple of questions - Were these the only 4 badges released up to 1969 and was the #1 Road Roller the only one released with a model?

It is well known that the first badge was distributed with the71a (although I have yet to see any primary source documentation confirming this). How were the others distributed? Were they given away free with every model purchased, or simply handed out in toyshops? Also, to what extent were these badges regional issues? (I have the idea that the 28c and 53b were available in The Netherlands, with the 41c distributed in the States.)

Here is a reference from the 1960 pocket catalogue (and has a date reference of 1958 inside) where it shows the badge issued with the 71 Austin 200 Gallon Water Truck.
You may recall that when the Millstream attic find of undisturbed Lesney items from the early 1960’s that the badges were actually a separate item and were sold separately when this lot were disposed of despite the Auction house being provided with correct information about what models these badges should be paired with.
There is an interesting note in the 40 year book page 73 that refers to the badge being advertised as available with the 70a Thames Estate van.
