Devizes today

Post by DrJeep »

I was able to pop into the Devizes (Wiltshire) toy fair today. It's fairly small but I found some interesting Matchbox items.

The blue 17a furniture van is not only in excellent condition but it's also the first casting, without the line inside the body. The maroon 17a has gold trim and is not quite as good but still very nice. The green 27c Cadillac is much better than the one I have already. This wasn't actually from the toy fair but from a stall on the Sunday antiques market nearby! The other Cadillac is mauve, though it looks a bit grey in this picture. The 31b Ford Fairlane has a black base, silver wheels and an intact tow bar, and was only £1.

The 75b Ferrari (not, as Ghosty points out, Aston Martin) is a blue-green colour, pretty much the same as my 19c Aston and much less green than the other 75bs I have.

It has the plated base and wire wheels, and is without a silver grille.

As you know, I don't really know anything about Superfast but I think this might be rare? It's not in the best condition but it has the grey base.

You're quite right! It was because I was comparing the colour to the 19c. I'll edit the post so that it makes more sense!

That's a nice batch of models Glenn, well done! If I were you I'd go out and buy a lottery ticket quickly.

Good haul, Glenn.
The first-type blue 17a is a particularly good find, and I'm sure you'll get a good RW trade for the SF32 Burmah tanker (which probably falls into the rare rather than the htf category).

Hi Jeff I’d be interested to know which were yours! These came from four different sellers - the green Cadillac from a market trader, the mauve Cadillac and the removals vans from a toy fair trader, the Weatherill and the Fairlane from another, and the other five from the final seller.

Yes, I’m really pleased with the early blue 17a. It’s the second I’ve found, and the first has some interesting casting flaws. I’ll post some pictures in the RW section.

I’m open to offers on the Burmah tanker!

I love the Burmah tanker but can we be sure these are genuine as the #63 Freeway Gas Tanker also carried Burmah stickers!

I am sure glenn's is due to the playware but what about those stunning minty examples for big bucks!
