I jumped on this buy it now from the US when I thought I'd stumbled upon a Holy Grail - a tan base #8 Widcat Mustang: -



Undeterred by the global shipping program's attempts to spoil the party with a $25 charge for sending a 3oz toy, I eagerly awaited its delivery over 3 long weeks.

Unfortunately, all was not as it seemed upon opening my parcel: -



A $5 value orange base model. Oh well, that'll teach me for not doing my usual due diligence!

Hi Johnny, the top picture of the Two you have shown has the wrong 'White Balance' adjustment, so if that is how you saw it, no wonder the colour was different on the actual model.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out as you hoped and a refund may be worth going after except you may have to pay postage BACK (depending on policy, etc.)..........
I have had similar situations where the photos are hard to determine certain colors either by bad photos/lighting or "not too honest Ebayers" ! A really difficult photo identifier quite often is grey plastic wheels vs. silver plastic wheels.

Agreed.
I've done this (very reluctantly) several times, and whilst the seller will twist and turn, all the time heaping abuse and opprobrium on your head, if your claim is genuine and clearly supported by the facts (as appears to be the case here), Ebay/PayPal will decide in your favour and give you a full refund.

I didn't fancy raising this with the seller but $50 is worth at least an email.

The listing said no returns but I'm not sure how that fits in with eBay's buyer protection rules.

I'll see what the seller has to say before considering my next move.

Ebay's buyer protection rules always take priority (and especially so when the goods being offered for sale have been misrepresented).

That's right, Paypal have also extended the window for opening a dispute from 45 days to 180 days in the UK. (As an aside, don't believe any ebay seller that says they are not responsible for items that are not delivered, they are!)

Just as a matter of principle, you should open a dispute. There are far to many rogue sellers on Ebay as it is. Whilst this may not have been deliberate, opening a dispute and obtaining a refund will teach the seller to be more careful with his listings in future.

I have never heard of the #8 Wildcat ever being issued with a tan baseplate JP?
