Introduced 15th of March 1961 at the Geneva Autosalon, the Jaguar E type , or XKE, designed by Malcolm Sayer, caused a sensation. One month later, the New York Motor Show witnessed a similar superlative experience. The Jaguar E type looked right from every angle and must be quoted as one of the most beautiful sports cars ever to see the light of day. The series I was produced until 1968 totaling over 38.400 cars made. The 6 cilinder in-line XK engine originally of 3780cc - 255 HP was upgraded to 4235cc - 265 HP, during its production life.
In my opinion, the lines and shapes of an E-type are not easy to duplicate, and/or scaled down into a model car. Many model car manufacturers did not succeed in capturing the correct looks. Matchbox however did one very good job, in fact I think it is among the best.
My personal favorite, the one with the grey tires.
