Everyone thinking about doing customs and restorations needs a Dremmel type tool and an accessory set. Besides that, here are the some of the most helpful tools for doing customs and restorations:

Mini pliers set. the first pliers is not a needle nose and is a duck bill (wide flat jaw) pliers. Most useful! These mini pliers all have smooth jaws so they won't mar delicate work.


Wire brush set for the Dremmel.


Diamond de-burring bits for the Dremmel.


Stainless steel dental picks. Be careful with these, I once plunged one of these about 13 mm deep into my left palm ... that's how you know you're not being careful.


Mini scissors. A must have if you make your own decals/labels or windows.


Needle file set (or mini files). I can hardly do a project without them.


Spring loaded center punch


Stanley brand nail sets (they have the best concave tip design).


A good tweezers set

The right tools are half the work.
I also use small copper and steel brushes, next to the Dremel stuff, as well as grinding disks for cutting etc.

As for painting, do you use spray cans or an airbrush, I do both.
