Here is an enhanced version of your picture with corrected colour cast and a little additional lightning.

The Silver-Grey model is a fairly hard to find version, it looks like the original model issued in 1966, but is actually the later 1970 issue, using castings from the 'Hardy Boys' Rolls-Royce. The other Two are re-issues from 1985-86, can't pin them down further as both mascots are missing but essentially the Mascot was modified during this period and on the very last issues in 1986, the chassis was also modified.

Nice trio of Rolls-Royce models to have in a collection.

Hello Ghosty !
Could you please teach me te difference between 1966 and 1970 issues. Because I have four copies of that toy in two box types. Just have to find them all. Saw 3 yesterday. I still miss one...

Hello Fox, There are significant differences between the first issues from 1966-69 with counter-sunk or domed rivets, different wheel designs, Black or Grey exhaust and rear brake drums. The 1970 issue uses the castings from the 'Hardy Boys' issue which had slightly modified castings with the areas between the front and rear springs filled-in with metal and the rear top rail of the luggage rack has Two locating 'Pips' for the 'Hardy Boys' ladder. I have pictures of the 1966 version, the 'Hardy Boys' version and the 1970 version on my site, just follow the little Blue arrow and click on the link, they are in the CORGI TOYS section.

I will give you a more detailed listing as soon as I can.

Thanks for that interesting info about the 1970 reissue, Ghosthunter. I remember that this was mentioned in the Great Book of Corgi, but no details were given regarding the differences. I have a spare example of the Silver Ghost, and I'm pleased to see I have one of each version! The 1970 issue has much brighter brasswork, but I'm not sure if that's just because the earlier model's has tarnished.

This is indeed a magnificent model, and one which seems to be very under-valued. My 1970 version was bought mint in decent original packaging several years ago for next to nothing (3.20 plus postage), and no-one was at all interested in buying my spare one, so I'm pleased to see it's no longer spare!

...and if you measure the wheelbase of both versions you will see one is longer and the 1970 version has thicker axle-housings, so there are Two more differences to be aware of.

I promised "Fox" a more detailed listing of the versions, so I will make a proper thread for it, that we way "Sierra" can have this thread back from our hijacking of it...
