Nice new vintage stuff!
Nice to see other collectors picking up the best they can get. The bay getting more scrapyard-looking in the last years
and no more good stuff coming up.

That (#81!!) Husky Olds is a nice variation with those wheels! I have tried to get together that 50+ number Husky cards
for the american market, but its hard to find the last ones (think missing 5-6 numbers!)

The CJ Jaguar in silver with silver thin whizzwheels is also not easy to find on that -long- collector card!
Its more common on the -short- collector card and was soon changed to the met.red variation.
Think i have all 4 different long card variations of the #39 Jag, including the hard to find -Whizzwheels sticker-
attached old style card. Only know of 2 short card variations with Jag, because #39 was withdrawn in 1971/72.
The range was running out of thin whizzwheels and this mould was not overworked to the larger whizzwheels. Should be to
ugly looking with large rocket or 5spoke!! The Jag lasts longer in the Holiday time gift set (if iam right?).

It would have been cheap + easy for Corgi to make a plastic base for the Jag XJ6 to accept wide wheels just like they did for the last run of the Ford Transit or keep the superb Jensen + Aston DBS as they were with wide wheels in green however the marketing decision to drop these realistic every day cars from the range even with wide wheels seems misguided with hindsight as the tooling was already made and likely only part way through its useage potential

As with Matchbox (and exemplified by the decisions to create SpeedKings and jazz up the Yesteryear colour schemes) rationale thought appears to have played no part in the stampede to Americanise (or should that be Americanize?) model ranges by blindly following Hot Wheels like lemmings into the abyss. Somehow the marketing people gained the upper hand in toy makers’ boardrooms across the country and the rest is history.
It is all horrible reminiscent of the scene in Chapter 32 of Douglas Adams’ ”The Restaurant at the End of the Universe”:
“Well, you’re obviously being totally naïve of course", said the girl, "When you’ve been in marketing as long as I have, you'll know that before any new product can be developed it has to be properly researched. We’ve got to find out what people want from fire, how they relate to it, what sort of image it has for them."
The crowd were tense. They were expecting something wonderful from Ford.

Douglas Adams is still my favourite author. It was such a shame he died so young. Whoever thought he would have died of a heart attack while working out in a gym.

We will never know why the rally Escort, Lotus Europa and Mercedes 280SL were not deleted until 1974 and the Mercury Cougar XR7 1976 when the same generation high quality Jensen Intereceptor , Aston DBS and Jaguar XJ6 all came out of the range in 1972 -perhaps there was no budget for additional new castings to replace these!!

Thank you,i`ll be posting more in about a weeks time.I agree the bay has a lot of playworn stuff,personally i try and buy carded all the time,sometimes costly but worth it. I know some people like to hold and feel the car so in contrast i also collect matchbox superfast of which i have about 600 boxed cars and numerous gift sets,but the blue carded corgi juniors are my favourites followed by husky then matchbox,plus i`ll have should have a couple of huskys that sms88 will like,but in about a weeks time...

when I see a 1960s or 1970s price tag on packaging it makes me want the item even more and in my displays if boxes have price tags they are put face outwards for me to enjoy!
