Modular 5 car clear display boxes

I have acquired several 'Matchbox' clear/acrylic-like display boxes. They have the embossed Matchbox logo and are modular for custom collections.
The web is a bit tedious when hunting down info surrounding these, although mundane as they may be. I thought I'd just toss the query out here and see
if anyone here should have knowledge concerning this, i.e. year introduced, etc.

On the basis of what I have seen on Ebay, these were sold in sets of five in the US during the later RW era.
