kwakers wrote:In looking at Harold's AIM Guide Hugh, I believe that Harold only had 2 types of Boat Trailers listed. His pen and ink drawings do not accurately show the infill on the left hand illustration, leading to your confusion as to the arms being without it. The earlier shorter type is the first trailer design, and the second longer trailer is being shown in both a top and a bottom view of it.
That is certainly plausible and explains why there are only two trailer types in his variation table. On the other hand, why dimension both the top and the bottom view of the same trailer?
If we assume that you're correct then, as you point out, this leaves open the question of the timing of the brace addition and the infill extension. As we have seen with other models, casting changes were not always made simultaneously between batches, resulting in short runs of models having only one of a pair of casting variations.
It will be very interesting to see what this thread throws up in the way of new trailer variations for Nick's catalogue!

Building on Dick’s insights, we now seem to have progressed to this list of trailers
1) round towing eye,
2) spade towing eye with shorter triangular infill and no braces, and
3) spade towing eye with longer triangular infill but with braces.
In addition, NAMC catalogued a trailer without locating pin, but did not report the towing eye design. (N.B. The confirmed existence of such a trailer would immediately point to the boat having initially been designed without a locating hole.)
It should be noted that there is a clear opportunity for a type 2/type 3 crossover, i.e. either shorter triangular infill and with braces, or longer triangular infill and without braces.

We are not saying that we do not believe what u say is true but its just that by posting pics in confirmation is a better way to say it! What better way to enlighten your students... ;)
If ure having problems then kindly ask your teenage sons to help out and upload pics for u.If that too is a problem then im willing to help upload them for if ure able to email me those pics.

Die that have been repaired, it bears the traces of its original shape. Machine tools left small line at the connection between the old and new shape. When I was examined an old model from my scrap pile, I have noticed the connection lines. On the basis of these lines, I think that the original model was not shorter and it had the towing eye on the same place. Only the original central brace was narrow and there was no side strengthening. On the lower part of the towing eye there had a narrow spade support, but it seems that it was slightly displaced (why????).

The earlier located pin for the boat was very probably smaller, because there is some trace from the original shape.

There are several types of the metal wheels, broad, narrow, with "21".

There is at least one unlisted colour variation (perhaps two). The very late boats were off white.
a) dark tan
b) light tan
c) yellow-tan
d) off white

Hello Hugh, I see that this variation is not listed in Nicks variations, nor is it listed in Stannards Book.
