Very nice indeed - on my screen base looks to be white (just like the real deal) rather than gray plastic, rear looks Tippax gray although real deal was usually bare aluminium

Hello SMS88, I can confirm the baseplate is in a pale grey and Jason will probably have another model he can photograph it with, something like a traditional white Ambulance, to show the grey shade.

What we need here Jason is for Mick to bitch about a 'lunchbox special' or a collector with early 'factory connections' who might have had these made. How can a piece of art like this NOT be featured in Nick's listings and pictured at his site? Was it bought out of the London area from a very secretive collector like myself?? Just Kidding Mick! Another 'unknown rarity' comes to light on our Forum courtesy of Nearlymint, who is by the way downsizing.
Jason, just unbelievable Lad.
WOOOOW What a discovery! Thanks for sharing this one with us much to our amazement...... :o kwakers :o

 a plastic baseplate on this casting is 100% pre-pro and deseves to be pictured on Nick´s 7c page. But deserves no new code!

great find Jason...congrats!
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

I understand exactly what you are saying Mick about the plastic base being a pre-pro feature. This red cab Refuse Truck version appeared in Stannard's as his code 1* Possible Trial Run, Just as your original 13 D reverse color Dodge Wrecker was also his Code 1* Possible Trial Run.
The red Refuse Truck he coded had a black base, not gray as on Jason's. That means at least 2 of these Trucks are now known with red cabs. How many more are hidden away in reclusive collections, (Not Mine I am afraid) or passed up as re-paints when they are sold to both kids and collectors who don't know they are/were factory produced rarities?
I also like the idea of having a picture of this rare Refuse Truck at Nick's site in case others are discovered with these early features and red cabs.
To 'Poke the Bear' so to speak on this discussion, two #20 Taxis are known without front tow guides. These are now designated code one with a note that they are most likely pre-production or possible trials just as Stannard would have coded them if they had been known in 1985. I really like that kind of notation that will still be accurate 29 years from now.
When does a known color variant like this Truck meet the criteria for a code 1 with a pre-production or possible Trial Run designation? Does an early design plastic component really effect the legitimacy of this holy grail variation, or is it the equivalent of the first weak boom casting on the reverse color 13D in reality? As they dropped these early plastic based Refuse Trucks at the factory and the plastic hinges sent the bodies sailing in two directions, did it nullify their existence in Lesney history, or enhance the value of the few that survived intact through early testing? Do we need 5 or 10 to survive, or what rule will we now use on this Truck to place them in their proper place in Lesney history? What interesting points this beauty of Jason's will now bring up. Does Matin's rule not apply here also? Cheers, kwakers
