In reading through the thread I failed to answer a question as to the base plate, it is gloss black. Should I clean the car up or leave it sort of dirty as you can see in the pictures. Also I have several cars that are sort of gummy or sticky, is there any way to get rid of the stickiness without hurting the paint?
VBD HAS BEEN UNABLE TO CONFIRM THE AUTHENTICITY OF ANY MODELS PICTURED IN POSTS BY TNT. THEREFORE, THE FACT THAT A PARTICULAR VARIATION IS DEPICTED DOES NOT PROVE THAT IT WAS EVER MANUFACTURED BY LESNEY, NO MATTER HOW AUTHENTIC IT MAY APPEAR.

Tacky paint occurs on models manufactured around the time of the changeover from RW to SF. There is some circumstantial evidence that it may be related to storage in Collectors’ Cases, but I have models in my collection which have only ever been stored in cardboard and yet have this paint problem. I am therefore of the opinion that it is a paint formulation/ curing) issue.
I am not aware of any fix for the problem (although I do wonder whether an extended period of vacuum drying might help).
