Husky / Corgi Juniors by Mettoy #31a Oldsmobile Starfire
|
|
The Oldsmobile Starfire joined the Husky range in 1966 and was packaged in the standard red and white blisterpack.
Initial production was in metallic light blue however in 1968 the Starfire was recoloured metallic dark olive green to the end of production.
This toy featured a rather large opening boot (trunk) and was the largest car in the Husky range. The sole casting variation was inside the trunk, the earliest production of blue examples featured a cut out boot floor however perhaps for reasons connected to rigidity riviting the rear rivit the boot floor was subsequently cast flat entirely as part of the body. All were produced with clear glazing, yellow seats and the chrome plated plastic baseplate incorporating the bumpers with Corgi“s simple but very fragile plastic suspension.
The vast majority produced in both colours were fitted with plain dark gray plastic tyres which were 10.5 x 2mm however 1969 production in metallic dark olive did feature the new 11.5 x 2mm black inset wheels with plated plastic insert hubcaps and these can also be found in the yellow-red-white blisterpacks made only during the final months of the Husky brand after the Woolworths exclusive contract had expired.
