Husky / Corgi Juniors 2b Citroen Safari by Mettoy

Husky / Corgi Juniors by Mettoy
#2b Citroen Safari

Corgi retooled their tiny Husky Citroen Safari in a slightly larger scale in 1967, making it 6mm longer, and taking the opportunity to give it a plated metal baseplate with wire suspension in place of the fragile chromed plastic one of the 1964 version.
Only the same plastic boat in varying shades of reddish brown mounted on the roof remained unchanged.

All models featured clear untinted glazing plus yellow seats which could vary in shade depending upon how much yellow colour was added to the clear plastic raw material. The first relatively scarce issue was in a metallic green shade well known on some 1/43 Corgis and had 11x2mm solid gray plastic wheels.
All other Husky issues were painted metallic lime gold, initially with the same gray plastic wheels and brown boat but firstly gaining a bright blue boat and then 11x2mm black plastic tyres with inserted plated plastic hubcaps.
This version was still in production when the Husky name was removed from the baseplate mold and a Corgi Juniors paper sticker in either of two sizes applied instead.
This transitional model is extremely rare indeed because the recolour to metallic blue was introduced for the bulk of the no-name baseplate issues which also came with a white boat which was standard accessory for the remaining 3 years of production.

The introduction of Whizzwheels baseplates and 11 x 1.5mm plain black plastic Whizzwheels was accompanied by a body colour change to yellow enamel. Hot foiling of Whizzwheels with the 5 triangle pattern was introduced during production of these yellow cars and all subsequent issues.
Close to the end of this casting´s production life the body colour was changed to metallic purple although some Giftset Citroens featured a return to the earlier lime gold however whether this was old stock of painted bodies or using up old paint stock is unknown.

All Husky issues were packaged in the standard red on white generic Husky blisterpack with 1969 lime gold hubcap cars also being sold in the new post-Woolworths yellow blister.
All Corgi Juniors Citroens were packaged on long picturecard blisterpacks with Whizzwheels cars coming in both long and short picturecard blisters with the Whizzwheels strapline - there may also have been Whizzwheels cars packaged in leftover Corgi Juniors blisterpacks with added Whizzwheels paper stickers added although these rare blisters havent been found for all Whizzwheels conversions yet.
