These are nominally codes 2 and 4, however should they be classed as two distinct shades of yellow?

Could one of them be a code 10,11 or 12 ?.
If not you could have found an unlisted variation. I don't recall seeing one with that shade of hopper before.

No, neither of them have the ejector ring.

It almost seems as if the yellow has been contaminated with red, giving a slight orange tinge. I have another that has slightly thinner paint. Where the paint is thinnest in the centre of each panel and on raised edges is shows more orange tinge. More yellow where paint is thickest.

The top model looks like it is the normal lemon shade
Do you have any other Matchbox models the same colour as the other hopper.

I agree, the top model is the common colour, I have about 8 others in the same shade. I'll have to check for other models in same colour as bottom one. In the tray I have out at the moment, the closest is MB72 Jeep CJ5 (superfast).

It's a really odd colour. I'm wondering if the hopper might not actually be painted yellow over red, i.e. there is a red undercoat showing through where the yellow paint is thinnest. What does the rear rivet look line?
