Geez, you guys gotta be getting tired of my questions by now! I do have another one though. I have two of the 39c Ford Tractors that are distinctly different colours of blue. One is considerably lighter blue than the other. I don't know if my picture will show this clearly. I will try to get a better shot of it.

Cam, don't you go mucking about with your pictures, that one of the tractors is fine, just remember what you did to achieve it, so you can duplicate the results for more model pictures.................

Hi Cam,these Blues fade easily, hence the multitude of shades.
Yes,there are a few clear, distinct factory shades of Blues around.

I noticed the same thing with my 31c Lincoln Continentals, they are a distinctly different shade of metallic blue. Thanks for the info.

Here is an attempt to show a few of the significant shade differences on this model:
Dark, medium and light blue with yellow engine covers:
Medium and light blue with lemon engine covers:
Medium blue with yellow and lemon engine covers:
Light blue with yellow and lemon engine covers:
I reckon there are in fact more then three shades of blue (the earliest examples seem to be even darker than the dark blue shown here), and it is very difficult to distinguish them without side-by-side comparison opportunities.
Yellow and lemon, however, are very different to me, with lemon being much scarcer than yellow (although there are a few shades of yellow too). I think that the lemon colour came about rather late in the Superfast era, and that this is the same phenomenon as on the Case Bulldozer mentioned a while ago. It should therefore not exist in combination with the darker shades of blue.

I had a 39 Ford tractor with the yellow steering wheel. I never gave it much thought and always assumed that it had a missing or damaged steering wheel and someone just pulled a yellow one off a beater JD tractor (to make the Ford tractor look better). It just sat in a box with about 35 or 40 other mint and near mint Ford tractors (all came from collection purchases, lot deals, out of carry cases, etc.).
When a thread sprung up here about it being a genuine variation, I went and dug out the model. After deciding it hadn't been tampered with, it found a new home with a lucky collector. Thanks for teaching an old dog something new. It went from being just another loose model that everyone has, to something valuable.
