I found this recently.

The problems started then and they wrote it had to do with Speedwheels in the USA, (not mentioning Hotwheels)

I'd like to see more of the report. Very interesting. I've been out bid on these on a number of occasions.
Don't think I'd find any here in New Zealand.

It certainly was the Hot Wheels phenomenon that affected Lesney at that time and some serious cost cutting took place even to almost cutting the Models of Yesteryear range from the inventory. Luckily for Yesteryear collectors they only suspended production to pour their resorces into developing the Superfast range.
