Latest projects (restorations & customs)

Post by Tinman »

We've been in the summer monsoon season and the rain has finally let up. I had a bunch of stuff waiting for a trip to the paint booth.

Reverse color wrecker is waiting for me to make some decals and is a gift to a VBD board member. The left side spotlight failed to form anything above the winch guard and the right side spotlight was just a nub. I built up the rest of the nub into a spotlight with epoxy but the left spot needed a transplant. It was worth all the trouble because it's a very early (correct) casting with the recessed ejector ring.

They put smaller tires on the right.

They put smaller tires on the right.

Reminds me of a story my dad told me.
He was driving his lorry with quite a few helium filled balloons tethered on the passenger side.
The tether undid itself and the ballons rose to window level.
As he was on the inside lane, he pulled over to re-tether them.
A police car pulled in behind and asked what he was doing.
"I have a weak spring that side and this is a temporary measure" Dad replied.
That sarcastic remark was given as he expected a ticket anyway but the policeman helped to re-tie the tether.
Not sure how true or how tall that tale is though but it's funny.

The Aveling Barford tractor shovel is hard to restore. The beaters almost always have one or more wheels with the hubs broken out of the center of the wheel. This is the product of two beaters.

The old exhaust stack was missing on the tractor. Some aluminum tubing filled in for the original.
