New News?

Post by Bonzothecat »

Just found this little beauty on Swedish eBay, and got it for just under 8 pounds. It's my first (and probably last) open-stairs (they don't come up to often in Sweden).
However, it looks a bit dull on one side, so does anyone know where I can find new decals? They don't seem to be very common.

I had a look to see their shipping details but found nothing so maybe you can email them and discuss.

Black Square is not mailing to the USA, France or OZ, according to their published notice. They should email elsewhere. However, I have made a couple of email inquiries and not received a response.

Steve at Model-Supplies is closed (virus related).

Rob in the Netherlands has a minimum order of 10 euro with a minimum of 22 euro for registered shipping (too expensive for a decal).

Tony in OZ is taking about two weeks even to respond to an email about and order and orders are taking a long time to be processed and shipped.

Ebay sellers and Black Square might be your best bet.

OZ is a possibility, I'm in no hurry, but what is the Black Square?

He's also the largest seller of vintage toy decals on ebay.

Found it, and because I am Swedish, it’s ordered and paid for!
Thank’s for telling me.
Now is the question: should I put it on both sides or just one? Is bad original decals better than great new ones?

That answer will always be one of personal choice and preference. The exception being on rare or scarce models where values run high to very and many would be pleased to own such a model in any "original" condition. If this is not one of those models, there are still plenty to be found at reasonable prices.  So, my answer is that you should do what would please you the most.

Difficult to see on your picture if it has the single or double thickness cowcatcher. Even with the standard black base (issue 1), the single thickness cowcatcher models are hard to find, and with a grey base (issue 2) are extremely rare. If either of these, I would leave well alone. Even the more common issue 3 (like yours most likely is) is more difficult to find than models with partially filled or fully filled quadrants under the stairs.

It is indeed the thicker cowcatcher. It will be a new set of decals on just one of the sides, though. The other side wasn't that bad, and I like the authenticity of it (since there is really no back or front on these, you could always turn it to either side, depending on what mood your in!).
