30c converted to a Heavy Recovery truck

Post by Tinman »

The end of the boom was broken off on the old 71c heavy wrecker. The left and right side of the front bumper ends were gone and the window insert broken and the dome light missing So I separated the back of the truck from the chassis and cab I rebuilt the end of the wrecker boom using the end section from the 30c Crane Truck. It created a true telescoping boom effect. The 30c had been stepped on and the boom was bent down so it seemed a natural donor for the boom's end section and the cab and chassis. The tiny flags and "Keep Back 500 Feet" decals are from Microscale. The ole "No 6" decals are from Code 3. All five of them were a royal pain in the ass to install. I had to clear coat them first to give them additional strength.

Very nice!

The tiny decals really give the model scale.
Judging by your comments, I’d guess Lesney never did a RW model with 7 decals or labels. On a Major Pack or King Size maybe because they could price accordingly, but for a small Regular Wheel, it sounds too labor intensive.
The final result make your patience well worth the effort!
Happy hunting!

Nice one Joe,another winner....I cant seem to get any finished..A first today ,borrowed my wifes nail clippers to snip off some protrusions off the inside of a couple of Spot on 1100s where there used to be roof racks I had filled with stir stick spikes glued and cut then sanded smooth...Then came the use of her handy little tool....Must get my own in time.

Thanks so much for all the positive compliments. The 30c is one of those models that you seem to get (along side the1e Mercedes truck) in every "lot" purchase of play worn models. Along side the 1e, the 30c has lots of possibilities and has become another of my favorites for custom models.

That is an excellent job, the colour scheme shows up the detail in the casting very nicely.
