41b D Type Jag Restoration

Post by Tinman »

The model was stepped on, the fin was bent at the upper rear end and the rear axle stirrups were broken out. It had wire wheels and both rear wheels were broken away just leaving the inner portion of the wire hubs on the rear axle. The rear tires were gone along with the outer portion of the two rear wire wheels. One front wire wheel was broken but the tire was still there. I was able to salvage one wire wheel an two tires. I repaired the axle stirrups and straightened the base. A little heat on the fin and it straightened up nicely. Driver was missing and required a reproduction replacement driver. With only one wire wheel and two tires, I turned my sights to a 41C with a shattered front and rear window insert and two missing tires. The GT donated the two tires and four hubs to make the D Type whole again. I was going to photocopy a pair of 41 decals and make a pair when I discovered I don't have any #41 decals. If anyone out there has a pair of decent 41 decals they want to sell - I'll buy them and pay the postage!

Whoo Hoo! I found some #5 roundels! Now it's a perfect replica of the Nick Jones Code 19 ... except for the early base ... except for the crimped axle ends, except for the ...
