The Not So Super Seven!

Post by TOYRFIC »

My wife and I were visiting London last week and took the tube to Walthamstow, a borough in the northeast of the city.
Stopped by a little toy and collectible shop and purchased this little guy.
My days of turning bases over is now over with this vacation!

So, is this "LOTUS SEVEN No.60" base with no "SUPER" and no "PAT. APP." near the rear axle considered a preproduction or a variation to keep you busy flipping over models?

Also, it appears to never have had a bonnet label applied. The paint has no residue or dis-coloration.

In my opinion, the baseplate is a pre-production component which was used in extremely limited quantities on actual production models. (Jason has also found one of these 'in the wild'.)

Yes a great find, as Hugh has said a pre-production base on a production model. I have found another since but they are very rare indeed.

Finding this was the highlight of my day, last week on vacation. It made the long tube ride and mile long walk to the shop well worth it!

Since I found this in London, I wonder if they were mostly shipped to stores in London? Or maybe, just supplied to the Lesney Factory store?

Superfast--indeed, the 1-75 line--is not my primary collecting focus, but should I happen across any of these Lotii, I will be checking them. Great find; proves that there are still many rarities and oddities to be found!
